Whickham School and Sports College approached Smart IT and asked if we would accommodate a group of their sixth form students currently studying BTEC ICT qualifications, and demonstrate how a professionally run IT service company operates.
We were more than happy to assist and have welcomed two groups of students from Whickham School. The students shadowed our IT experts as they went about their daily activities – fixing servers, inspecting networks and assisting customers with their IT issues. The insight into our service department has shown to the students what a critical role we play in keeping hundreds of businesses up and running on a daily basis.
The students showed a lot of enthusiasm and were very interested in how we supported such a large diverse range of networks, as well as the systems we used and the processes we followed. They were also allowed some hands on experience and guided by our engineers in carrying out a range of repairs to IT equipment in our workshop – don’t worry, all repairs are guaranteed!
We were very impressed by the student’s enthusiasm and would be more than happy to welcome Whickham School students again in the future. At Smart IT we understand the importance of training and development for young people, and as such work closely with schools and colleges in the area to recruit the brightest and best local talent onto our Advanced IT Apprenticeship scheme.
When is the next intake for the Advanced IT Apprenticeship?
Please check our Job Board for current vacancies. We should have an opening around July
