What is FTTP?

In short, data is sent over the fibre at precise intervals by a laser. The innovating aspect about a purely-fibre connection is that millions of pieces of data can be sent every second and a high-speed connection is therefore part and parcel of FTTP. This network gives upload and download speeds in the UK that surpass older technologies.
How does this differ from FTTC?
Fibre to the Cabinet uses the same optical cables as FTTP right up to the street cabinet, and then from the cabinet (exchange) uses the existing copper telephone line, known as a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), to connect the cabinet to the premises. Because of the copper/fibre optic blend, FTTC is less expensive to install however it lacks the ultrafast connectivity speeds that come with FTTP.
