At Smart IT, each employee is given one day’s paid leave a year where they can volunteer for a local charity of their choice, known as charity days. It’s a great opportunity for the team to invest in their local community whilst being compensated and rewarded for their efforts by Smart IT.
On Friday, Ciaran & Mitcheal chose to spend their annual charity day volunteering at Whinnies Community Gardens. Hidden away in the heart of Sunniside is Whinnies Community Gardens, a project for people of all ages with mental and physical disabilities, providing leisure and gardening activities and the opportunity of meeting others who share an interest in gardening/leisure activities.
There are always lots of jobs to be done around the gardens so Ciaran & Mitcheal were kept busy, removing old roofing felt from two sheds then recovering them both with EPDM rubber, they then treated two window frames in the Chatterbox Cafe with an oil preservative as well as treating fencing leading to the fish pond. However, it wasn’t all work, Ciaran and Mitchael were rewarded with delicious homemade cake from the Chatterbox Cafe.
“Thank you for your support, Ciaran & Mitcheal were a great help and a credit to your company”
Jim Rising, Whinnies Community Gardens.
The gardens are ran and maintained by volunteers and facilities such as greenhouses, sheds, tools, potting sheds, summer houses, barbecues tables and chairs are available free of charge. The gardens provide a place to explore and sit and appreciate nature. Anyone wishing to visit will be warmly welcomed and volunteer support is much appreciated.
