At Smart IT, each employee is given one day’s paid leave a year where they can volunteer for a local charity of their choice, known as charity days. It’s a great opportunity for the team to invest in their local community whilst being compensated and rewarded for their efforts by Smart IT.
This week, our telecoms helpdesk supervisor Kelvyn and help desk engineer Bradley were all hands on deck at local charity Feeding Families. Feeding Families is a registered charity established in 2018. With 8.4 million people in the UK experiencing food poverty, Feeding Families’ key goal is bringing communities together in these challenging times when some families struggle to make ends meet. There are numerous and often complex reasons why this happens, it impacts people of every age, from all social backgrounds.
As well as much needed food donations, the charity also needs support with packing and delivering the food boxes. Kelvyn and Bradley spent their charity day sorting the food, packing boxes and finishing by delivering food parcels direct to families in need within our community.
“Feeding Families is built on the kindness of our volunteers. For some that might be providing a Christmas hamper, for others it might be packing and delivering boxes throughout the year. Others might be working on different projects that we run. We welcome volunteers like Kelvyn and Bradley, they’re always needed.”
Steve Sheard, Senior Operations Manager
Food can be donated to Feeding Families at 46 Blaydon Bank on Monday and Wednesdays between 9am and 1pm.
