We were initially engaged by Janet Stonehouse, Microvention’s Customer Service and Business Support Manager, to take over their IT Support as they outgrew their previous one-man-band supplier. During this time, Microvention signed a new lease at a bigger premises and approached us to support them in the move.
“We had found a lovely new office with room for us to grow, so we needed a reliable, efficient service that ensured no downtime so the team could come in on Monday morning, sit at their desks, and everything worked.” Janet Stonehouse, Microvention.
This entailed moving everything from the old site to the new site and ensuring everything was in working order; all in the course of a weekend. This included the installation and set-up of their IT infrastructure in their new premises.
The Challenge
One of the primary challenges was the timing of the move. The lease for the new office was signed in March 2024, and nothing could happen prior to then. So it was early April before things could happen, with the move set for mid-May. This left only a number of weeks to prepare.
To minimise disruption, the move itself had to be executed over a single weekend, allowing employees to resume work without any delays on the following Monday. Given the time-critical nature of their orders, many of which are destined for the NHS, this situation demanded zero downtime during the transition.
Another element, although not a challenge, was ensuring that the work was completed to an exceptional standard, which was particularly important given Microvention’s high standards and attention to detail.
“We’re in a much bigger space than before, and it’s been a big project so I wanted it to be perfect and look great. The Smart IT team was really supportive of that vision.” Janet Stonehouse, Microvention.
The Solution
The primary objective was clear; manage the office move with no downtime and to a clear specification. With years of experience undertaking office moves, we were able to sit down with Janet and the team to understand exactly what they wanted and their expectations before delivering this to a high standard.
We moved and installed all of the hardware, taking into account their new standing desks and ensuring that the cabling would stay immaculate with that functionality. This included the set up and connection of multiple docking stations, dual monitors, keyboard and mice. Following this, we used cable tidies to make sure all cables were hidden.
We also connected up the IT Infrastructure, including the broadband, servers, and firewalls ensuring everything was up and running leaving Microvention with a secure and reliable connection.
The Result
We completed the move over the weekend, and were delighted that the new office was fully equipped with a functioning IT setup—complete with a reliable connection and organised workspace—ready for Monday morning and the arrival of the team to their new premises.
